🐟 Starfish or Sea Star?

Before meeting the species, there is one name to clear up.

Starfish are not fish.

They are echinoderms belonging to the class Asteroidea, making them relatives of sea urchins, sand dollars, brittle stars, and sea cucumbers.

Sunflower stars live in the Northeast Pacific, from Alaska south toward Baja California. They occupy habitats ranging from rocky kelp forests to sandy and muddy seafloors and have been recorded hundreds of meters below the surface.

The body has five long, relatively slender cylindrical arms with rounded tips.

Blue stars inhabit tropical reef environments throughout much of the Indo-Pacific.
